How Do I Access the Calendar Settings?

Open a browser and navigate to the web part page that the calendar is hosted in and place the page into Edit mode (from the Site Actions menu, select "Edit Page"). The calendar display will then be replaced by the calendar setup wizard. Note, you cannot use FrontPage or SharePoint Designer to modify the calendar settings; you must use the SharePoint interface.

There aren't any lists displayed on the Base List property page

Only lists you have access to on the current site will be displayed on the Base List property page. If there are a large number of lists, it may take a moment for the lists to be displayed.

Does the calendar display items from any list type, or is it limited to SharePoint event/calendar lists?

The calendar web part can be used to create calendar views from all SharePoint base list types, with the exception of Team Discussions.

Filtering: When creating a filter, can I use the SharePoint [today] or [me] functions?

Yes, both the [today] and [me] filter functions can be used, just select a filter operation that ends in "the current date" or "the current user of the site" when creating a filter criteria.

Filtering: Is there a way to see the available field values when setting up a filter?

To view the available field values, you will need to setup a temporary filter condition. Set the desired field's condition to "has any value" and add the condition. When you click the "Preview Filtered Items" button, the field values will be displayed for the given field.

Filtering: Is there a way to preview a filter's result?

To ensure the filter you have created is returning the desired items, you should test it out. Simply click the "Preview Filtered Items" (located on the filtering property page) to ensure the desired results are being returned from the SharePoint list.

Filtering: How do I create a filter based on an event's start time field?

When filtering against the event/calendar base list type, the Start Time field cannot be used. This is to ensure that recurring events are displayed correctly. However, if you are creating a filter for any other base list type, such as a tasks list, you can use the start time field.

There aren't any lists displayed on the Add Lists property page

Only lists that you currently have access to on the current site and are also the same list type as the Base List you selected on the initial screen will be shown. For example, if you selected a tasks list on the Base List property page, then only tasks lists will be displayed on the Add Lists page.

Only lists that you have access rights to and are also the same list type as the Base List you selected on the initial screen will be shown. By clicking the Advanced button, you can add lists from other sites.

How do I move a calendar from a development server to a production server?

There is no special method for moving pages that host the calendar web part from a development server to a production server. The calendar stores relative URLs and list names (not GUIDs) when you save its settings, so moving it from a development environment to a production environment does not require you to make any changes.

Can users create new items in the calendar?

Yes, provided the "Display New Button" checkbox was checked when the calendar web part was setup. Users can select which list to create items in when they click the "New" button.

How do you edit a calendar item?

Simply double-click on the item within the calendar and the item's standard SharePoint display form will be shown. From there, if a user has the proper rights, they can click the "Edit Item" button to make changes to the item. When they save their changes, they will be taken back to the web page that hosts the calendar web part.

When using color coding, how do users know what the different colors mean?

If color coding has been setup in the calendar web part, the calendar will display a "Color Codes" button on the calendar's toolbar. When users click the "Color Codes" button, a colors code legend will be displayed.

What time zone is used when displaying events? The site's time zone or the user's local time zone?

The calendar web part uses the current user's local time zone when displaying items in the calendar. The time zone for the SharePoint site is not used.
